The Short Answer: October to February
Ujjain is a year-round pilgrimage destination — Lord Mahakal is always present and the Bhasma Aarti is performed every single day without exception. However, the most comfortable and enriching time to visit is between October and February, when the weather is pleasant, the Shipra River is flowing well, and the evening Ram Ghat aarti is magical in the cool winter air.

When to Attend Ram Ghat Aarti
The Ram Ghat Sandhya Aarti happens every evening at sunset — approximately 6:30–7:30 PM in winter and 7:00–8:00 PM in summer. The winter version is particularly atmospheric: the cool air, rising river mist, and flickering oil lamps create a scene of extraordinary beauty. Arrive 30 minutes before sunset to secure a good viewing spot.
Bhasma Aarti – Any Time of Year
The Bhasma Aarti at 4 AM happens 365 days a year. There is no ‘bad time’ for it — but in winter (November–February), the predawn arrival in the cool, dark city of Ujjain adds an extra layer of gravity and spiritual intensity that summer visits cannot quite replicate.
